About Memphis Prep
Memphis PREP Program provides promising Memphis City School rising juniors and seniors an enriching summer experience, either in intense academic preparatory schools or in programs developing leadership skills, responsibility, and talents. Participants have a chance to take a risk by stepping outside of their usual environments; Memphis PREP Program inspires and energizes these young and gifted minds to seek and expand their field of vision for the future. The program offers opportunities for students to develop their independence by living away from home. The diversity of cultural backgrounds at these summer programs enlivens the experience as students from all over the world come together for the summer. In a very short time, students receive intensive training in specific areas of their choice and interests, which they may not have the time or opportunity to explore at home. Students have the chance to test the limits of their knowledge and learn how to expand those limits. Not only do these students have wonderful times, but they grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually as well.
Upon their return from these programs, and until their graduation from high school, the Memphis PREP Program, in collaboration with the Junior League of Memphis, The Rotary Foundation, The Plough Foundation, and the Children's Foundation, continues to offer a wide variety of activities designed to help expose them to the many community services offered in Memphis, and to prepare them to successfully navigate the college admissions process. Each month, students are offered opportunities for various community service events. ACT and SAT test preparation classes are offered before each test date. In addition, seminars and workshops are held frequently to help students learn essay and resume writing skills, leadership, and interviewing skills. Memphis PREP Program students are also assisted in the college selection process and guided through the application and financial aid processes.
